Why this exercise
AI can be confidently wrong about numbers and can even invent a fact that is not in the data. The exercise works without access to an AI tool: teams get a printout of a metrics analysis with five hidden mistakes and look for them using five verification questions. After it, managers stop treating an AI answer as a finished result.
How to run it
- Show the five verification questions: Do the numbers match the source data? Are there facts that were not in the prompt? Do the conclusions follow from the data? Are there judgments of people or bias? Could this be sent to a person — tone, confidentiality?
- 5 minutes: teams look for mistakes in the printout using these questions.
- 5 minutes: check against the key.

- Which mistake would you have missed if you had not checked?
- Which of the five questions will you always ask yourself?
Tips for the facilitator
- The exercise needs no AI access — handy if the company prohibits external services.
- Remind the group of the red lines: do not upload personal data or confidential figures to public services, and do not hand AI the evaluation of people or personnel decisions.
